The PhilosophyGyms project co-founded by the European Union brings together partner organizations from across Europe to explore how the inner – philosophical – dimensions of sustainability can be strengthened within real business environments.

Combining scientific expertise, practical experience, and approaches to inner development, the consortium works closely with small and medium‑sized enterprises (SMEs), vocational education and training (VET) providers, sustainability experts, and philosophical practitioners.

The project is structured into several interconnected Work Packages that ensure both a strong theoretical foundation and practical implementation.

Overview

Work Package 2 (WP2) marks the first result‑oriented phase of the PhilosophyGyms for Regenerative Futures in SMEs project. Its focus lies in identifying competencies and capacities that foster inner transformation and sustainability within SMEs.

Partner organizations from Bulgaria, Germany, Poland, Portugal, and Sweden conducted research, expert interviews, and company consultations to explore existing approaches that strengthen leadership, resilience, and sustainability in business contexts.

The outcomes are presented in the Research Report and Competence Map, which outline key knowledge, skills, and attitudes required to embed inner (philosophical) dimension of sustainability into organizational practice. Together, they form the conceptual foundation for the project’s subsequent results – the Workbook, the Online Course, and the PhilosophyGym Pilots.

This Work Package focuses on developing a practical Workbook for SMEs and VET trainers.

The Workbook defines structured “workout stations” that guide participants through key areas of sustainability: understanding, aligning, empowering, and anchoring. Each station includes exercises, reflection tools, case studies, and facilitation resources that can be directly applied in company settings.

Following comprehensive testing and partner review, the final Workbook will be translated into all partner languages and presented in a user‑friendly format – ready for immediate use by SMEs and training organizations.

The objective of this Work Package is to develop an online training program to help facilitate PhilosophyGyms in SMEs.

Building on the Competence Map and Workbook, the course covers key topics such as critical thinking, business ethics, interdisciplinary collaboration, resilience, and the inner transformation of economic practice.

Partners jointly design digital learning materials and a Workbook Guide as a methodological companion to support trainers and coaches in effectively applying the Workbook, selecting suitable exercises, and implementing PhilosophyGyms in diverse business contexts.

The course and Workbook Guide are co‑developed, tested, and refined to ensure high practical relevance and usability. The program is offered as a flexible, self‑paced micro‑credential course.

In this final phase, the developed materials and training resources are tested in practice. Newly trained coaches implement PhilosophyGyms in selected SMEs across partner countries.

These pilot sessions generate feedback, observations, and practical insights.

The results from the pilot phase will further refine and strengthen the materials, ensuring their lasting value and long‑term impact.
